I picked up one of the tailstock daubers. I had wanted it for my 9" 405. It doesn't fit. The locating diameter is 0.312. The well on the 405 is 0.260. It fits fine on my heavy 10 Now I see lots of people with 9" lathes inserting these into the well on their tailstock . Jim Benjamin >>>>> Don't forget that the heavy 10 had at least 2 different style tailstocks. The newer ones seem to have the 10K style. >>>>> Although the castings are somewhat different, I believe the quills are the same. There were two quills available; the "standard" and a "hardened and ground" one. Earlier ones didn't have metric graduations on them. Webb Wyman >>>>> The 10L has a MT-2 taper in the tailstock. Jim Benjamin. >>>>> The tail stock quill for the 10K is the same as the one used in the Heavy Ten. The 9 inch quill has a narrower key slot cut into the bottom. Also, the scale on the quill is English only where the 10K has both English and metric graduations. Webb Wyman >>>>> On most of the 9 inch workshop lathes and also most of the wide bed 9 inch the key that engages the tail stock barrel is cast in place with babbit. Also be aware that there are two different tail stock barrel keyway widths. Early and later and also the heavy ten is the same barrel only with a wider keyway. Really late heavy tens have the keyway broached in the tail stock casting and the key is affix to the barrel with a roll pin and it is in a shallow keyway in the barrel also. Dennis Turk >>>>>
