The Workshop

 A revised and improved Workshop Model was introduced in 1935 as the No 15 Workshop (415 with bench drive).

 No. 15 Notes:

• It has a Longer apron and wider saddle.
• An Oil hole above the half nut lever not in the lever.
• The Saddle lock is on the Right front saddle wing.
• The mount bushing for the cross-feed screw has a hole for the Tommy bar.
• Has larger micrometer dials.
• Compound has two swivel boss locking screws.
• Change gears are 18 DP.
• Compound gear is 18/72 or 4:1.
• Has higher tooth count turning gears for finer feed rates.
• The compound rest top and base have 4 #12 screws for the gibs.
• The gib screws are 12-28.
• Has an adjustable bench-mounted countershaft for the HMD 415.
• The tailstock has a closed web.
• The lead screws on the No 15’s are acme 3/4"-8-tpi right-hand threads.
• Spindle threads are 1-1/2"-8-tpi.
• Spindle length is longer-12-1/4", with a 3/4" hole.
• The lead screw, at the point where the gear fitted to its end, has an OD of 0.5625".

 The improved 1936 No. 15 Workshops used bed Style B7 in production runs which were first cast in April of 1935, and with seasoning time, were ready for the 1936 models. The first order being completed on 8-1-1935. This B7 bed is the same as the newer bed unit code B-100. Note the prior revised BL and BN-5 early castings, the latter is the first reference to the "N" as Workshop 9-inch. The Workshop bed codes show the gradual improvement of the Workshop series narrow bed and how they got there from the first 8 inch lathes. Code UB-101(1-10-1942) was the first Workshop Bed with "9" South Bend cast into the side of the bed. The Under drive bed casting for the Workshop was phased in in early 1936 as B-8, which is the same as unit code UB-100, UB-101 had the headstock bolted directly to the bed with no clamp, same features as the later revised code UBD-101NK. These unit codes changed to incorporate different types of drives, and revisions.
