100111, I recently purchased a south bend 9 model c lathe catalog 415-yc, serial number 100,111 and am beginning the restoration process. Based on the information from the serial card, the lathe was shipped to Hofferkamp Bros in Springfield, IL on 06/17/1940 on consignment. The original order # was 1-2801 and received by South Bend on 05/31/1940. It has a horizontal drive and was originally gray in color. The motor has been replaced from the original, but it still has the original Furnas switch and is mounted on the lathe. It looks like it has been painted at least twice with a yellow and then green paint. On 04/17/1942 the repair part record shows that 4 of part no 9w259, 9" compound rest base gib screws were sent out. When I picked it up it still had the Cushman model # 3506 6" chuck on the lathe. It also came with HSS tooling bit blanks in the origininal box from 1946. I found this in Ipswich, SD and now it is in Worthington, MN. It would be great to find out how the machine made it from Springfield, IL to Ipswich, SD over the past 70+ years. I've joined both the Practical Machinist and the Yahoo groups and they have been very helpful.
