I have a South Bend model A lathe that I bought at a personal auction about 10 years ago,
The serial number is 160066.  It looks like it was made in mid 1945,
It has a tag on it: "This machine conforms to orders of the war production board",
My dad also had a model A, which my brother in Vermont now has,
One item that caught my eye was this,  
169941, 2/7/1946, 10L x ?’,  Catalog No. 8187-?, Tool room lathe, stamped J.A.N.,
single lever gearbox on metal fabricated stand (under drive) bed part no. UB10,
gearbox QCG101. Purchased in Sydney Australia second/third/fourth hand last year,
Info from Leblond is that it was shipped to Bugbee Niles Co North Attleboro, Massachusetts,
They don't know how it came to Australia.

My dad worked at Bugbee Niles Co for many years,
until they went bankrupt in the early 60's,
He had designed and built two huge mesh machines (used for pocket books and other garments).
These were eventually sold to South Korea.
