I have a South Bend Precision Lathe, Model A, Catalog number CL 644 Y, Bed Length 3, Serial Number 29884NAR9. My father was a tool and die maker with Litton Industries in Beverly Hills, CA. There was an R&D Laboratory that had been developing a hard space suit. When they lost the bid to sell their suit to NASA (circa 1975) they closed the lab. My father bought the lathe that had been in the tool room and gave it to me. I have used the lathe at my home in Pleasant View, Utah for making generally repair parts for whatever was needed. It seems I'm not the only person that has a great love the South Bend Lathe. It is the greatest tool I have ever had. I am retired now and restoring the machine. In researching your SBL Serial Number File, it appears that it was manufactured in 1952. Is there anything else about the machine that you can offer? Marty
