4238, 10” x 3’, 1915 South Bend sold by Sears, Roebuck & Co., originally a Treadle lathe, motor converted some time back Returned to service, Rochester, NY U.S.A. The spindle thread is 1-1/8-12 with 7/16 bore, pulleys: 4.5", 3.75", 2.75" Single feed screw, half-nut only on the Simple carriage, compound only. (no cross-slide) vernier on the compound is stamped 0-65 (!) It has a riser toolpost, has the t-slot for a latern-style toolpost. The top slot area is also adjustable (bolts) The bed is ser # 4238 and the apron # matches the bed # The bed is a triple-vee, one flat. The carriage runs on the outside vees, the tailstock on the flat (front) and one Vee (back) Bed width is 6" between the two outside vee points. 12 change gears, plus the idler. Also has a "Goodall Pratt Company" keyless chuck for the tailstock, patent date Aug 13, 1895. Unlike earlier models, the carriage lock is in the back, not front. Also, the lead screw bearings are bolted to the bed from the top, not on the side like earlier catalog pictures show. Motor conversion done at some unknown time.
