44828, 11" X 5' Cat. 84-B, casting dates 4-13-29 under the head and 7-3-29 at the tail end of the lathe, The overhead drive is not original to the lathe. I believe that it is a Cullman chain drive, The over head drive was built by Cullman Wheel Co., Chicago, ILL. Sold by H.A. Smith Machinery Company, Syracuse, NY. The 84-B sold for $375.00 in 1929. It looks to me that the drive may have gone bad and someone converted it over to a belt drive, It works ok but someday I would like to find a SB chain drive for it, one that I can afford. I also need to make some new oil plugs like the ones on the tailstock. The only part of the lathe that I did not paint was inside of the bed, it still had the original paint in there and I decide to live it there.
