S/N 56624 NAR10, N= 9" lathe A= Quick change gear box, overhead belt drive, friction deed apron R= Regular spindle hole, standard swing. Catalog No. C1744Z 744 = 9" Model ‘A’, 16-Speed, V-belt bench lathe, Horizontal Motor Drive (HMD) Code designation NAR in S/N Bed Length 3 ½ 42 in bed Casting # W35NK5 I bought this lathe from a friend who bought it at an auction. It has STI plates on it which means it was once a ‘Learning Tool’ at the ‘Saskatchewan Technical Institute’ (now called SIAST – Saskatchewan Institute of Applied Science and Technology). This lathe was at the STI Palliser Campus in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, Canada. Some of the pieces were missing but found all on EBAY along with many other cutters and holders, etc. If you could tell me anything more about this lathe that would be great – Example “What Year it is”? Thanks and I hope this helps in finding what happen to the South Bends and where they are today. The one I have will be mostly used for making fabricate items for disabled people. Not any items that are being made already – as we can only make specific items for individual people. Examples are sleigh 3 yr old with MS so she can be pulled in the snow, or behind a bicycle, or in a stroller (she has a special seat for her wheelchair and I had to make a base for the chair that would do be able to be changed into these 3 thing. And eggs for Easter with Beepers so Blind children can go on an Easter Egg Hunt. At the moment we are working on an electric wheel chair wheels to have the 17 yr old be able to go on the Beach without sinking in the sand. And of course lots of bottle holders for wheelchairs. (Tetrasociety.org – in the next month or so ill have a website up for Regina where I live)
