have my grandfathers 9"x36" bed South Bend Lathe Serial # 80511.  He 
purchased it in 1937 or 38 and was the original owner.  Manual Gear 
change, motor mounted in the rear.  The gear side cover (swinging) has a 
plate that says:
CB Burns Machine Co.
541 W Washington St.
Chicago
South Bend Lathes
I assume that's the dealer he bought it from as he lived in Chicago.
